Apple Finger Puppet

Bring your apple finger puppet into play and story time with your child and let their imagination run wild as they engage in endless fun with their new apple friend.

Whether the apple is part of a story about harvest time or just a fun companion, it will add wonder to their play.

Cutout apple puppets ready to be sewn.

Ingredients or Materials

  • Red, green, and brown felt

  • A sewing needle

  • Thread (or embroidery thread for extra detail)

  • Scissors

  • Fabric glue (optional, for younger children)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut Felt

    1. From the red felt, cut out two apple shapes. Keep them simple and round enough to fit comfortably on your child’s finter

    2. From the green felt, cut a small leaf

    3. From the brown felt, cut a short stem

  2. Sew Together

    1. Place the two red apple shapes on top of each other. Begin sewing around the edges, leaving the bottom open for fingers. You can use a simple running stitch or whipstitch - either works great!

    2. As you sew, add the brown stem and green leaf to the top, stitching them securely between the two layers of red felt.

    3. If sewing is too challenging for little hands

      1. You can hold the apple while your child practices moving the needle and thread through the fabric. It’s a great way to work on fine motor skills!

      2. You can also use fabric glue instead of sewing

  3. Finishing Touches

    1. Once the sewing is done, check that the finger fits in the apple puppet. If it’s a git snug, you can trim the bottom slightly.

    2. Feel free to decorate with embroidery or fabric markers, but keep it simple - imperfect apples are perfect too.
